VariOr® Dento

DNA diagnostics of periodontitis and periimplantitis

What is the VariOr® Dento test?

The VariOr® Dento test allows the identification of bacteria causing periodontitis in a sample of sulcal fluid.

In addition to confirming the diagnosis, the test results allow doctors to choose the most effective (antibiotic) treatment according to the type and number of bacteria detected. Thus, there is less risk of the patient being exposed to adverse antibiotics repeatedly and for long periods of time.

Periodontitis has been shown to be directly associated with a number of systemic diseases such as vascular and cardiac disease, arthritis or diabetes. Thus, untreated periodontitis can have even more serious consequences than loss of teeth.

Who is the test for?

The test is intended mainly for periodontists, to detect the early stages of periodontitis, to confirm the diagnosis of advanced periodontitis, to determine the next treatment and to control its course. However, the test is also used as a preoperative examination before implant, surgery or other procedures.

Of course, the test can also be performed based on the patient's request, but the sampling must be performed by a specialist - if you are a patient and you are interested in the test, it is possible to send the sampling kit to your attending dentist.

Main advantages of the test:

  • detection of a wide range of bacteria without using time-consuming and often inefficient cultivation
  • early detection of aggressive forms of the disease
  • high sensitivity and robustness of the method - probes for individual species of bacteria targeted at several different regions of the genome
  • provides the basis for targeted antimicrobial treatment

How to perform the VariOr® Dento test?

  • The dentist / periodontist will order a sampling set free of charge.
  • The dentist / periodontist takes samples according to the instructions included within the set and sends them to the laboratory together with the application form. Sampling takes place using paper pins, which are inserted into the periodontal trunks.
  • In the laboratory, the test is performed within 5 working days from sample delivery.
  • The laboratory report is sent to the doctor (in case of self-payment together with the invoice).

How does the VariOr® Dento test work?

The test is based on molecular biological detection of DNA of determined pathogens. The principle of the assay is reverse hybridization of the labeled PCR product with specific membrane-bound probes.

How much does the test cost?

The VariOr® Dento test costs CZK 1,500 incl. VAT (For diagnoses K052, K053, K055, K056 it is possible to defray the test by a health insurance company. In this case, the doctor will fill in the application form and tick the appropriate box). The test is also available in the VariOr® Dento Plus variant, which enables the detection of an extended spectrum of 11 periodontal bacteria. This variant of the test is not covered by public health insurance (price for self-payers: CZK 1,700 incl. VAT). The VariOr® Dento Plus test can be combined with the VariOr® GEN test to gain a comprehensive view of the patient, including genetic risks that increase the likelihood of further disease development. The VariOr® GEN analysis can be performed from a sample for VariOr® Dento Plus, so the patient is not burdened with further sampling. The discounted price for combination of VariOr® Dento Plus and VariOr® GEN analyses is CZK 2,500 incl. VAT.
